Welcome to the memories
of the 169th Engineering Battalion, Charlie Company, Long Binh, Vietnam, 1966-1971. If you served with us, be sure to leave your contact information for sharing with others, along with any memories and/or any photos you want posted. Send this link to others and let's have a common place to find each other. After all, nobody knows us like us. We depended on each other with our lives then, the least we can do now is stay in touch, share our memories, and maybe even help each other when possible. But this web site isn't about the 169th Engineers, at least not in the broad sense. They have a web site of their own (and you can actually find it in our link list). It's about a certain group of people who served their country between 1966 and 1971. They served together as members of the 169th Engineer Battalion, Charlie Company in Long Binh, Vietnam. This web site is for you, those very people to share their stories, their memories, their photos, and reconnect to those you served with. Despite what information you can find on other web sites, no one can know what its like, except for those that served and endured as you have. As for the Bio pages, I'm tossing the idea out, there is a different way of doing the photographs I want to try. Part of the problem that I didn't realize was the photo captions, which firefox, for whatever buggy reason, won't let me see. That was brought to my attention by another member, and after looking at the code, I realized that the flash slide shows don't really allow for that, and in the bio test page, with members that have A TON of photos, it can be a little bland. The new thing would be a lightbox, and I hope to get that up and running on the test page in the following weeks. Also sometime this week, I am going to try and add more videos. There were other updates that I didn't make a big announcement for. There are new photos in for the latest reunion, and if you are on the mailing list, you would have gotten word that details of the next up and coming reunion will be released (hopefully) in January of 2009. More updates to come! ^_^ September 7, 2008 Reworked the Links page a bit, sorting few more movies to ad to the youtube page, and getting ready to work on an online form to get information for the new biography pages. And with the arrival of a few supplies, I think I can get working on the final pages that need to be updated to match the rest of the Web site Thanks for everyone with their patience so far, and your continued support for the updates ^_^ August 3, 2008 Part
5: Since most of the site has been integrated with the new menu on the side
frame, I've decided its time to pull up the old one
so it no longer takes up space on this page. Also, this web site now has
it's own youtube account. I've set it up in order to demonstrate its possible
uses. The current demo is one of the videos I had taken at the 2006 reunion. Now, the quality of the video is not much
due to my inexperience at the time with taking video,
and the fact that it was taken with a digital camera, not a camcorder. But,
putting them on youtube will keep the site from bogging down, and keep the it
running smoothly (hopefully). If this turns out to be a useful feature, it may
continue. If not, it can easily be discarded. This is the link to our July 20, 2008 PART
3: The navigation has been tweaked a bit, but there may still be
bugs and I'm working on
getting the pages
in order to make it more
easy to view them and look around the site. Until I have the navigation
completely worked out, I've moved the old menu down here to the
main page. If you get to a point where you need to use it, but
can't get
back to that part of the site, I've made the "HOME" button
as the banner at the top of the page, so when all else fails, click
the Banner and it will bring you back to this page here. PART 4: Getting a bit more done with the site, a few more updates. Current update is what I want to call the member Bio pages. I'm using my father as a tester at the moment for the page, and on the members pages, next to the link is the tester. Let me know what you think of the new page layout and information. If this works out, it should give a nice detail about what everyone did in this unit during their tours of duty, and it also makes it easy to go through and see what member posted what photos. Any info on the likes or dislikes of this new page layout design would be much appreciated. Email me at dreamingkey@gmail.com. Thank you ^_^ ~Rebecca
