April 9, 2009 - Reunion News

Just wanted to all to know that our next Reunion will be held in Tunica, MS in April of 2010. You will be receiving more information as the final arrangements are made.    Thank you for your patience

-Old Updates-

Larry and I would like all of you to know we have been trying to put something together for our reunion in 2010..... It has been challenging to say the least.... most hotels will not commit when it is more then one year out. We have decided to have it in the Memphis, TN area and will be sending you more information in the next few months. We want to make a trip down there to check things out, but Larry is scheduled for back surgery on 2/20, but I promise that won't stop either of us from getting this all organized. I know there are a couple of Casino's in Tunica right out of Memphis, so that will probably be one options we will be checking on. I hope this reaches most of you and if you can pass this information on to anyone I may have missed, we would appreciate it. Thanks for all your patience and we will be in touch soon.

On April 30, 1975 at 8:35 a.m. the last ten Marines were evacuated from the U.S. Embassy in Saigon. The United States was no longer involved in the Vietnamese War.

An estimated total of 2,122,244 people were killed during the war in Vietnam. Of these, 58,169 were Americans. Of those Americans, 11,465 were teenagers. An estimated 304,000 Americans were wounded. 153,329 Americans were categorized as ‘seriously’ wounded. That total includes 10,000 amputees. 6,727,084 tons of bombs were dropped. This is about two-and-a-half times the total tonnage dropped on Germany during World War II. 3,750 fixed wing aircraft and 4,865 helicopters were lost. The dollar cost of the United States involvement in the war in Vietnam is estimated at $140 billion.

The last two US soldiers to die in Vietnam were killed when their helicopter crashed during the evacuation, some 30 years after Lt. Col A. Peter Dewey had become the first casualty.
